Red Velvet Truffles

Ever since the day I saw the Red Velvet Cupcake recipe on the Add to Taste blog, I was dying to try it! Some of those dearest to me could not understand what made this cake so special, thinking it's normal cake with a dash of food colouring. So wrong they were. Once they tasted the texture of this cake they understood where the velvet comes in.

I handed MrB the recipe for the cupcakes and set him out to bake while I did some very important and urgent work. Unfortunately, as the element in the oven decided to give in, the result was some pretty tasty but interesting looking cupcakes. What do you do with 24 cupcakes that are not visually as tasty as they are?
You make truffles!
This is also my cheat's truffle recipe. No more hours of standing and stirring the ganache, hoping it will set. No, easy and delicious!

For the Red Velvet Truffles:

Make the red velvet cupcakes as per the Add to Taste recipe

Hope that they don't come out right so you won't be tempted to stop at this step!
Now, carefully, dig your hands in a smoosh, mush, crush, squish and soften up the cupcakes. Have fun! Add a dash of delightful alcohol. We used the South African treat, Amarula. You can use Baileys, Kahlua or keep these particular ones, alcohol free.
Roll your mixture into bite size balls. Dip each ball into melted chocolate and allow to set. We drizzled the truffles with white chocolate mixed with red food colouring

See that wonderful, truly velvety texture? Very rich and a delectable treat for your friends!
If you just want regular truffles then
a) bake a cake
b) make a microwave cake
c) go buy a cake
Mix it, icing and all and add coconut, nuts or chocolate sauce. Your imagination is your limitation
